Mama compares herself to her barely living plant exclaiming "She expresses me", both with simple desires, difficult circumstances and an incredible amount of fortitude (121) . Even if Mom's dream of a new home eventually comes true, the patience she shows while waiting is yet another element of perseverance. Asagai explains this concept like this: “I will teach, I will work, and things will happen, slowly and quickly,” just as Mom's dedication and effort ultimately paid off (135). Perhaps the most fundamental theme represented in A Raisin in the Sun, the concept of the American Dream gives personality to both the characters and the work as a whole. For me, the definition of this dream is having the freedom to succeed in whatever aspiration you choose to pursue. I think most Americans see the Dream in a similar way, perhaps with more emphasis on money and materialism. Some of the goals I personally want to achieve in my life include being happy, traveling and discovering the world, and creating amazing memories with family and close friends to share with them..
