In William Shakespeare's famous tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, the main character Hamlet is ordered to avenge the death of his father, old King Hamlet. In other words, Hamlet must kill the new king Claudius. However, Hamlet misses three opportunities and experiences failure three times during the process of this revenge. The reason for this is due to Hamlet's lag issues. According to the play, Hamlet's delay problem shows the time when he fails to kill Claudius. First, Hamlet must discover Claudius' guilt in order to kill him. “To be or not to be: that is the question.” (Shakespeare 1821). Hamlet struggles with the question of being, he wants to kill Claudius, however, he did not find Claudius' guilt, so he does not dare to kill. In other words, these struggles are another form of excuse to delay his mission. Also, “He must give us a break”(Shakespeare1821). Hamlet explicitly states that he wants to take a break. This problem also emerges in Hapgood's essay: "Shakespeare's characters often begin to separate and then stop to add afterthoughts"....
