Bishop RobersonFisherEnglish21-5-14Is it necessary to stop deforestation?Imagine standing outside a brand new house in the woods that has been worked on tirelessly for months and is finally finished. Then, a construction worker says it's time to move because they're demolishing the house. Every year thousands of homes are destroyed and more and more families are left homeless. Deforestation must be stopped worldwide for the safety of families and creatures everywhere. Many people believe that deforestation is a necessity for humanity for many reasons. “Deforestation has made it possible to build many communities and cities” (Cotthem 14). Deforestation has made many things possible such as…”communities and cities have been built” (Pryzborski 12). It has provided human beings with many things. It has been providing land and raw materials to humans for hundreds and thousands of years. “Governments are able to build roads to make trade and transportation easier and more convenient for residents” (Cotthem1). Although it destroys homes and forests, it is a major source of raw materials for humans. Furthermore, without human use of deforestation, there would be very few places where families could shelter and find food sources. “Deforestation can also mean the preservation of forest land into productive areas for agriculture” (Cotthem 1). The loss of forests around the world is causing serious ecological problems. “The direct causes of deforestation in countries are agricultural expansion, extraction and harvesting of wood for domestic fuel” (Pryzborski 4). The main countries that are deforesting are Brazil, South Africa, Great Britain and the United States. “Less than 2% of... half of the paper... of nitrogen" (Souza 934). Now in Brazil, the annual deforestation rate averages 0.5% per year. The forests they expanded into non-forested land by an area of 2.6%. “Plantation forests also expanded during the 1990s by 12,000 square miles” (Allaby 213). create forests. “Far from disappearing, temperate and tropical forests are still rapidly expanding” (Allaby 213). Deforestation may be necessary, but it is not at all necessary for the survival of humanity of the area that humans have need has been deforested and is used for a specific purpose. According to many ecologists, humanity no longer needs to carry out this process, but there are still many people who will continue to deforest until they are unable or no longer able to do so made illegal worldwide.
