It is inevitable that we will all die, it is a fact that we all have to deal with. There comes a time in everyone's life when they have to face death; a friend's tragic accident, the death of a family member, or your own battle with illness. When faced with the idea of death, people will act in different ways, some may find it therapeutic to apologize for the harm they have done, some may want to spend time with loved ones to ease future pain, and others may decide that their life was not what they believed. The story Death Constant Beyond Love tells us about a man named Senator Sanchez who lives a happy life with his wife and five children. That is until doctors tell him he only has a short time to live. Death is unknown just like love, we don't know or understand when love will find us, and it's the same with death. In Death Constant Beyond Love is not your typical love or death story. After being told of his impending death, Senator Sanchez wants to keep his life steady as usual, until his desires for a young woman change his plans, and then he dies. Senator Sanchez facing death shows us that he wants to keep his life normal in some respects as he counts the days he has left. According to the article Understanding the Meaning of Social Well-Being at the End of Life, most people facing death have a “need to be surrounded by family and participate in social activities… [giving] them a reason to live, a purpose to stay.” involved and living as they died” (367 Prince-Paul), Senator Sanchez continues his campaign to stay involved in his life. He would not let others know of his death "he had decided to bear his secret alone, without any change in his life,... middle of paper... riage, death" (92) Senator Sanchez tries to defeating death by almost falling in love twice, but due to his own marriage he is unable to remarry. In the end Senator Sanchez dies "crying with anger at dying without her" once again this agrees with Vodolagin's article in which death is tolerable, it is dying that is difficult. Senator Sanchez realizes this when his happy life is interrupted when faced with the news that he is dying. Instead of being honest, at the end of his life, he decides to continue his greed. He ultimately alienates those he is happy with in order to live his truth alone. Even to commit an act that he knows is wrong but that justifies him to satisfy his lust and try in his own way to cheat death. In the end he dies alone next to Laura showing us that death is beyond love, because only birth and death are constant in this life..
