Before camp, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. Upon arrival I was so nervous that I sat in the back and remained silent, which was unusual for me. Once I realized that many consultants already knew each other, I became even more nervous. I thought that, in their eyes, I would simply be the new alderman of Kansas, and since no one knew me, I feared that I would be left out. However, when we started breaking the ice, I realized how wrong I was. Everyone was genuinely interested in getting to know me and was curious about how different things were in Kansas. Whether it was my little country school, whether I said soda or pop, or whether I owned a pair of ruby red slippers like Dorothy, everyone was intrigued by my life, what I considered ordinary. When we got into our teams, I realized for the first time how amazing a week it was going to be. Just shopping and decorating the pavilions was so much fun, and the campers weren't even there yet! As the week went on, I learned more about each of our forty volunteers and saw what amazing people they are. I couldn't imagine a week surrounded by someone better than the consultants of
