Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants work with a wide variety of populations throughout their careers. Some of these diverse populations can include different types of backgrounds, genders, ages, economic status, ethnicities, and more. While working with these populations, occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants must be aware of the different types of influences that can affect not only the client, but also their occupations. In this article, “Psychosocial Aspects of Occupational Therapy,” the different types of psychosocial aspects present in the field of occupational therapy are discussed. This article discusses the basic understanding of what occupational therapy is and what defines Occupation as “activities of daily living, naming, organization and meaning by individuals and culture” (Association, 2006). This article also discusses the historical aspects of occupational therapy. Occupational therapy was founded by many different professionals with different backgrounds, who came together to share the same idea of what occupational therapy should be like and the importance of activities for a person. This article also talks about the different types of services that occupational therapy offers. Occupational therapists and assistants can work in many different settings. With the variety of settings in which a therapist and caregiver can work, the services offered are diverse. Some different services that may be offered in these settings may include community mobility skills, stress management, alternative routines and habits, and more. It is important for therapists and counselors to know which settings offer which types of services when referring their client to a new setting. The last topic covered in this article can be given to anyone who wants to learn about occupational therapy in the psychosocial aspect. When I work in the field and someone wants to know more about what I do and what my career includes, I can provide them with this article to get a basic understanding of what I do. After a person reads this article, I can highlight some of the main points of the article to give them a better understanding of what occupational therapy is from a psychosocial aspect. It's important for me to keep this article handy because if someone wants to check out what I do and doesn't know where to start, I can give them this article to read to get a basic understanding of what I do and they can get an idea of what search. This article is not only for clients, their friends and family, but can be used for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants. This article can be used as a refresher for a therapist if they are having trouble remembering anything about it
