My code of ethics helps determine the type of decisions I will make as a leader. When making a decision, not only does the code of ethics influence the types of decisions the leader will make, but also the impact on those in power. The definition of power is a person's ability to influence others or exert control over them. (Nahavandi, 2015) There are two different ways that power impacts a leader: a positive impact and a negative impact. Positive impact focuses on action orientation where a leader is more sensitive and more generous. The negative impact is a leader who fails to empathize where a leader is addicted to power and takes all the credit. When a leader is positively influenced by power, he or she will be successful in making ethical decisions. For example, the leader will be able to obtain thoughtful information from his colleagues and make a good and reasonable decision taking into account his subordinates. When a leader is negatively influenced by power, he or she will abuse his or her power and make poor, unethical decisions.
