Topic > Summary of Edward C. Tolman's Cognitive Theory...
Humans and animals use cognitive maps on a daily basis. For example, I'm trying to redo the carpet downstairs, at the store I remember my floor plan to estimate how much carpet I would need for the job. The floor plan exists in my memory and is familiar enough that I can remember it. Another example of how we use cognitive maps in everyday life is: My son learns to dress by watching me dress him every day. However, he never realizes he knows how to do it until he is put in the position of dressing himself. Additionally, my son learns to walk to school by observing the route we use daily. If one day I can't take him to school, he has to remember the route so he can get through
