Topic > Violence and Violence in the City of God by Albert Camus

City of God we would all think of as a holy place to be, but in the controversy it was not the safest place to be. more courage to live than to kill oneself." Albert Camus Many kids don't have a home to run to, a mother to cuddle, a father to put things right, brothers to receive love from. The reality involved in violence may make you but ultimately breaks you. Power combined with violence can make you stronger and have more power but destroy you in the blink of an eye. The brutality of life is revealed in the slums of Rios in this Brazilian film. A powerful film that sees violence, lack of education, lack of money in third world countries. People create a civil society, individuals make it the norm, however there are those ignorant people who destroy everything and make it a disaster. It is part of human balance to have good and bad. According to Urban Cinefile Critics, "A powerful and disturbing film that explores the myriad stories that lie deep within Rio's slums, City Of God shocks, enlightens and above all shocks us by taking us into a world where drugs and organized crime are one lifestyle." But in this film it shows that everyone chooses their own path to take, for example, if it weren't for the harshness and brutality of that city. Rocket, who is intelligent, cannot survive to do the work that his intelligence gives him the right to do. He takes photos in the photography industry and publishes his work. Intelligence can be created in anyone who chooses to succeed in life the right way, however a card called Lil Z in this movie shows us otherwise. The stupidity, the lack of knowledge (thinking you are famous by being in the paper) not being able to read at his age is just sad. Thinking he's the God of... middle of paper... see the karma in the ending where Lil Z returns to town looking for help for the kids, I assume these kids turn on and kill him. Rocket captures the whole scenario that made him famous to have a person inside and live another life where that shot he took ended up on the front page of the newspaper. Neighborhoods impact a child's behavior and how they see themselves growing up. A child's background in life is important, no matter what. Where a child grows up, the history of the neighborhood remains the same until someone changes their perspective of the landscape they grew up in and the violence that has always surrounded them. They need a better model because eventually history is bound to repeat itself by now having children under the age of 15 walking around thinking they are running the place until history repeats itself again.
