Marshall, was strongly devoted and committed to the justice system. He has often been called the “father of the Supreme Court.” He reformed (http://www.ushistory.org/us/20e.asp). It all began when James Madison Jefferson's secretary of state, William Marbury, sued him for not receiving his commission as justice of the peace. Marshall's written decision on behalf of the unanimous Court determined that the appellants were entitled to their commissions, however, he denied taking legal action. Instead Marshall proclaimed the Judiciary Act of 1789, the power to declare acts of Congress invalid if they violate the Constitution. He overturned the acts of Congress for the first time because they conflicted with the Constitution.
