Nonverbal Communication Nonverbal communication is essential to human communication and makes up 93% of all communication. Body language cues can facilitate the delivery of the communication message or they can interfere with the communication message being sent. For example, when trying to portray the confidence and power of a leader, simple things like the placement of your hand in a handshake or a pat on the back with a colleague can have a huge impact. Furthermore, when you attempt to portray honesty while under intense scrutiny; clues such as emotional facial expressions, fidgeting, and body alignment can all indicate whether the speaker is being deceptive or not. For these reasons it is important for communicators to examine their own bodies. This video focuses on the research behind body language and all nonverbal communication in general. Specific examples were broken down and discussed throughout the film. I found these examples quite fascinating, especially the examination of politicians undergoing body language training. I've listed some tips I've discovered below. That said, being aware of my personal body language isn't something that comes naturally to me. However, there are some things I could do to improve this aspect of communication. The first thing that comes to mind is practice, practice and more practice! The practice might involve speaking in front of my family and friends. The practice might also involve talking more during work meetings and team functions. It's often too easy to sit back and be idle during work meetings. Additionally, recording a video of myself would be a great form of personal dissection on body language. I am often unaware of the body language signals I give when speaking in front of others. Watching footage of myself would give me a great way to look at the clues that are
