Growing up, our parents always tell us that drug use can have negative consequences in our lives. Many films in today's film industry portray drugs as the cause of an extraordinary period, accidentally encouraging that drug use is completely acceptable. Requiem for a Dream is directed by Darren Aronofsky. This movie shows that drug use can be fun in games, but it will lead to very destructive destruction that can affect the addict and everyone around the addicts. The film shows the struggle that four individuals face to overcome such a strong drug addiction. Aronofsky was very creative in presenting the topic; used certain cinematography, themes and directing techniques to tell the story to the audience. The film shows us four characters all affected by drug addiction and their struggles to overcome it. Sara Goldfarb is an elderly woman who is addicted to television and eventually turns to diet pills when she becomes self-conscious about her weight. Harry is a heroin addict. His girlfriend Marion is also battling an addiction which leads her to prostitute herself to satisfy her addiction. Tyrone is a drug dealer. Sara ends up in a mental institution, Tyrone ends up in prison and Harry loses his arm to a terrible infection. The characters' lives end up taking a bad turn. The symbols are all found within the film. The film went through three different seasons. Summer is a symbol of life, and during this part of the film the main characters had no worries and there were no consequences for any of their actions. For example, it is the time when people have adventures that will lead to wonderful memories and, sometimes, problems. The film started out just like…half of a sheet of paper…close ups that added a lot of emphasis to the moment the drug was injected. These are just some of the editing techniques used in the film. Requiem for a Dream from my point of view was exceptional. It was depressing but, to be honest, that was the point of the film. When starting to watch this movie, people should make sure their emotions are neutral because if upset, they can make things worse. I really liked the way he brought together all the elements a film needs to create a unique production. I definitely need to see some more Aronofsky films. Overall the film had a profound impact on me. I honestly learned a lot and even though drugs are not a part of my life I learned that deep down inside an addict there is a reason why they go down the path of self-destruction. I really enjoyed it even though it was depressing, and I would recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't
