Stutzky suggests that cyberbullying is the use of modern communication technologies to embarrass, humiliate, threaten, or intimidate an individual in an attempt to gain power and control over them. Bullying has been around since the beginning of time. Nowadays, however, bullying doesn't just happen on playgrounds, but also on the Internet and on cell phones, making it possible to bully a child 24 hours a day. Cyberbullying follows children around the clock and in the safety of their bedrooms. A recent survey conducted by MindOh!, an educational company that tracks youth trends, reported that nearly 80 percent of 5,500 teens surveyed said they had been exposed to cyberbullying. Cyberbullying affects the mental health of many young adolescents around the world and the problem is constantly increasing as more and more forms of bullying are created. In extreme incidents, cyberbullying has driven teenagers to suicide. Most victims, however, suffer from shame, embarrassment, anger, depression and withdrawal. As technology continues to evolve, new means of communication allow today's bullies to become more effective at terrorizing and tormenting their victims.
