We all live in a world where there are countless opportunities to travel and see what the earth has to offer. We are able to view the various sites where history was made and continues to be made; even become more connected to evolution. Our world is full of fields of beauty and mountains of wonder. If you ever want to just "get away", from the drama or just need a vacation, there's a place for that. If you ever need to find the perfect wedding venue, the land provides it. If you've ever had a vision of your "dream home" or "dream job," the land offers a place where all of that can become a reality. Earth, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is the planet we live on, but she is much more than that. She is our mother, our source, our need to live, our home. The place where families grow, people are educated, live and feed themselves is in dire straits. Just as there are viruses that harm our bodies, there are things that are harming and will eventually kill the Earth. Deforestation, pollution, uncontrolled use of infrastructure, waste, erosion and soil degradation, these are just some of the viruses we are giving to the earth, but they all must stop immediately. People, beautifully defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is a group united by a common culture, tradition, or sense of kinship, typically having a common language, institutions, and beliefs, and often constituting a politically organized group. There are very few options available to us to change our path of destruction, but there are people and/or groups who could easily help put an end to this madness. The figures we must seek guidance from are religious figures, because without trying, the middle of paper......of what we are doing and admitting is taking us into no man's land. Secondly, it is a joint effort. When I talk about us, I'm not just talking to one group of people, this is a global effort. In the words of Pope John Paul II “I hope that the inspiration of Saint Francis will help us to always keep alive a sense of “fraternity” with all those good and beautiful things that Almighty God has created. And you remind us of our serious obligation to respect them and guard them with care, in light of that greater and higher brotherhood that exists within the human family." No one wants to leave this earth and I know that deep down everyone worries. Whether it is for selfish reasons like, you like your home, everyone must make an effort to reform our ways and help our bleeding mother. Heal her from the great pain we have caused.
