Honestly, I don't think I used any of these theories as skills during this lesson. The only one that I believe I have acquired and somehow used, if there was one, would have to be "social cognitive theory". I think “people watching” is a great way to learn. I observe my peers and learn from them not only in this classroom but on a daily basis. This theory talks about how it uses parts of the individual's knowledge acquisition that can be directly related to the observation of others in the context of social interactions, experiences, and external media influences. This theory is used in psychology, education and communication. “Learning would be extremely laborious, not to mention dangerous, if people had to rely solely on the effects of their actions to know what to do. Fortunately, most human behavior is learned by observation through modeling: by observing others we form an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on subsequent occasions this encoded information serves as a guide for actions. This statement was said by Albert Bandura, creator of the SCT. Social cognitive theory first came from Albert Bandura because he first used this theory in a psychological model of behavior used in psychology. Bandura believed that by observing people one could learn new information. He initially called it observational learning or modeling; this type of learning can be used to explain a variety of behaviors. Some have argued that this theory is the most influential theory on learning and development. Social cognitive theory emphasizes that learning often occurs in a social context and that most of what is learned is acquired through observation. An example of how Bandura first used this theory was through his experiment with the Bobo doll. But Bandura......middle of paper......cial, so they go out and drive because they OBSERVED behavior and are repeating it. Some media used for SCT are not always directed at the intended audience. For example, let's say a Budweiser commercial comes on television and is aimed at people ages 21 and up, well, instead some teenagers might think it's funny and want to try it. Some media may be intentional but some may also be unintentional, but no matter what the reasoning, SCT is there because it shapes thoughts and actions. Social cognitive theory has been around for a long time and always will be. From when Bandura first created it to its use through mass media. I used social cognitive theory by observing my peers and not imitating them successfully, but I tried. All in all, I think SCT is a great theory of language and I think everyone can learn from it.
