In our generation “cyberbullying is quite common, can affect any young person online and can cause profound psychosocial effects including depression, anxiety, severe isolation and, tragically, suicide" (O'Keeffe 1) Cyberbullying has become a part of our generation thanks to the Internet and social media : “Many social media sites display more advertisements such as banner ads, behavioral ads that influence not only the purchasing tendencies of preteens and adolescents but also their view of what is normal” (O'Keeffe 1). we are easily influenced by what we see and what is accepted, since social media and the Internet have become so popular that children start using them at an early age. If an advertisement shows that someone is not normal for any reason, then it pushes the child or group of children to make fun of other children on the Internet or in person with whatever the “abnormal” characteristic is. The belief that that person or group of people is not normal then spreads to other children, overall developing a generation of people who are victims of cyberbullying without even knowing what they are doing.
