The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is written by Stephen R. Covey is a book written for self-motivation. In this book Covey describes how to become a more effective and motivated individual throughout your life. He provides specific guidance and details that lead you to this effectiveness throughout the book. The fundamental goal of the book is to demonstrate how these specific seven habits can greatly benefit your life and make it meaningful and effective. Covey explains that if you are willing to make the necessary changes you will become a more effective individual. He describes that there are seven habits that make all this possible. The first habit is to be proactive, or “proactivity”, it is explained that being proactive means that we as human beings are responsible for our lives. Our performance in life depends on us and is not the result of things that have happened or experiences, but of the choices we choose to make and how we see our life as a whole. It is our obligation to choose how we respond to the experiences of our lives. Let's take Viktor Frankl for example, he was a prisoner of the extermination camps of Nazi Germany. Frankl had terrible experiences such as being tortured, starved, naked, and losing almost his entire family. At the time all this was happening, Frankl decided he wasn't going to let any of it affect him. He realized that he had the freedom to choose his own response to what was happening and what it all meant, which then in turn gave him self-realization. While I look at the statement “What I do is largely controlled by the actions of others,” I am sure that the author of this book would strongly disagree with this. The reason I say this is because...... middle of the paper ......f. It is of utmost importance to practice all four of these paradigms to be successful in all of the habits discussed. Covey explains: “Every dimension is important, it only becomes optimally effective when we address all four dimensions.” Each of these will have a positive impact on your life as long as you practice effectively. It is important to develop a sense of what is most important to your true self and also to others around you. These seven habits are very important to use in our daily lives, and with practice and dedication, you will be able to achieve a more effective life. You just have to put in the work to make progress and improve. While this can be a constant battle, you must remind yourself that these habits and practices are what will make you a more successful and valuable individual and that is what is important.
