The crimes committed by Holmes against society were horrific in nature and unheard of for the time (HH Holmes, 2004). America became so fascinated by his methods of madness that they went mainstream with the release of Erik Larson's "The Devil in the White City" chronicling HH Holmes during the Chicago World's Fair in 1893 (HH Holmes Biography, 2015). While his motivations and methods may have been extraordinary and excessive for the time, criminal profilers have come to understand Holmes' motivations and methods to see into the mind of a serial killer, no matter what.
