In the article “Remember, ladies, wearing that bikini is as easy as (eating) cake,” Dave Barry, humor columnist for the Miami Herald, uses imagination and wit to express his opinion on the fashion industry's representation of the “ideal woman”. The media has successfully plastered the image of the “ideal” female form in every corner of society, and it seems Dave Barry is fed up with it. Although his article is short, his point is clear. Barry is saying that women need to stop listening to the fickle fashion world that tells them they have to look like this pencil-thin, "one size fits all" image they sell, and, instead, learn to feel comfortable in their own skin, cellulite and stomach included. Barry doesn't take the typical "positive body image pep talk" approach. He uses exaggerated examples and humorous suggestions to show us all how ridiculous this whole thing really is.
