As a writer, I struggled in my first semester, which took a toll on my enthusiasm for both English and writing. However, I realized that with a little help, proofreading, and editing (multiple times), I was able to generate a well-written or, at best, mediocre essay. Despite my poor start, I continued to enjoy my love of English language arts courses. I was amazed by all the juicy classical literature and historical poems I was able to read and understand. I loved all of my college classes and honestly enjoyed the readings! There is so much that can be learned from examining the literature and research. Without having read and written countless assignments on various topics, novels, poems and more, I don't think I would still be motivated to become a high school English teacher and literature professor. My love of reading is a love that I hope is contagious enough to be captured and spread by my future students. Meanwhile, my continued love of Grimm fairy tales inspired me to focus on children's literature for my second master's degree, and I'm almost certain I also conjured up a fragment of my future thesis from observations in selection
