Topic > Music in my life - 982

Music is part of everyone's life. From childhood sing-a-long songs, to grunge garage music and everything in between music is everywhere. Growing up with an extremely musical background it was in my genes that I would become a musician. Playing music has helped me become the person I am, releasing my anger, expanding my future, and making new friends. I first joined the band in fourth grade playing drums. I played for about two weeks then stopped because I didn't like it, mostly because of the teacher. In sixth grade we got a new music teacher and he told me I looked like a trumpet player, so I gave it a try. I was taking music lessons but after the first one my music teacher told me she had to leave because she had breast cancer but she told me to never stop playing music. He told me it was in my blood. Our new music teacher had no knowledge of the instrument, so I was left to teach myself. I worked and worked and no part was easy. Many times I wanted to stop, forget it and do nothing, just be a student. Then I got to middle school with a real marching band and concert band. On the first day, all the people, the instruments, the sounds of the music and the ensuing camaraderie were just mind blowing. I continued to play the trumpet and picked up the bass in sixth grade. I joined a punk rock band and played bass for about a year, then we broke up. I still play both bass and trumpet throughout high school and plan to continue playing not only in college but for the rest of my life. Music has been a great help in my life. When I had problems in life I could always listen to my music or play and write songs about things going on in my life. I still remember the time when I... middle of paper ...... my shy appearance allowed me to make numerous friends. Most of my high school memories are of my bandmates; from wasting time in rehearsals to the band's travels, I wouldn't trade them for the world. When you spend as much time with people as you spend with your bandmates, they grow with you. You always have something in common, music. When I got to college I was nervous about meeting new people, new classes, a new house, it was scary but I met over 30 kids in the band and that made the adjustment so much easier. All in all music is an essential part of life. If it wasn't for music I would be a completely different person. Music has helped me get through difficult times, helped me meet new people and taught me something I can never lose, the power of music. When someone says that music is their life, I can understand it because if it wasn't for music I don't know what I would do.
