Once again, we have decided on an English-only policy. If our children lived in the United States, their English should be beyond reproach. Of course, by eliminating the Spanish we also eliminated part of their legacy. I am sorry? As for culture, yes; regarding the language, no. There are bills pending in the Missouri Legislature for some sort of English-only law. I recently read an article in a national magazine about the Ozarks in which some citizens are concerned about the number of Hispanics who have come to work on poultry farms there. It seemed to me that their “concerns” were actually prejudices. There is a clear creep of anti-Hispanic sentiment in this country. Even my daughter, yes, the one who is upset about not being bilingual, admits to hearing "Hispanic jokes" said in front of her at school. You see, many don't realize, despite her appearance, that she is a minority. I want to believe that his impeccable English is a contribution
