My transition from high school to college made me realize that there are numerous differences between reading and writing high school and college English. I have noticed that my reading and writing skills are improving as the levels of my education advance. In elementary school I was taught to write my name and friendly letters, it was there that I started reading short books. Like previous years, I reached middle school where I started writing short stories and reading more complex books. When we got to high school we started writing essays and reading novels. In recent years I have been referring to reading and writing as two different things with no relation to each other. Now that I have already finished elementary, middle and high school, as a college student the improvement in reading and writing still continues. University is a time for further improvement, a place where students recognize that reading and writing are complementary, to read well we must be able to write well and vice versa, to write well we must be able to read well. High La school was a great experience, as I was an ELD (English Learner Development) student, my first year of high school didn't consist of essays and reading long novels compared to my other freshmen classmates. My first year was pretty uneventful, I was taught the basics of reading and writing in English. Starting from the first year I started to learn about the structure of sentences, the use of verb tenses, vocabulary and grammar. These areas of writing are certainly fundamental to writing and reading in English. Without these elements the true meaning or content of the writing can be misunderstood when reading or writing. That year I started reading the Goosebumps books, becoming familiar with the sentence structure, the use of tense, the new v...... middle of the paper ......ritori we are free to express our opinions and ideas in our writing, and as readers we can certainly enjoy our reading. Now I see reading and writing as a coming together process, if we write well, we will certainly read well. These two English concepts are complementary and that is why we should continue to improve both together. I am enthusiastic about university English, in just one semester I have learned valuable reading and writing skills, I hope to learn many more new skills in my previous courses. New knowledge will come, I believe that with the ideologies of university professors and with my hard work I will be able to become a great reader and writer. I need to leave behind the English ideology of high school and continue to discover new forms of reading and writing. I'm just an ordinary reader and writer, but I'm in college and will continue to improve.
