Topic > Abortion: Every woman has the right to choose - 1233

Should abortion be legal? This debate is an important issue in the United States. Many people are for it and many are against it. However, it seems that people have extreme views on the issue. It's all or nothing. The moderate position on abortion is that it should only be legal under certain circumstances. According to the essay "Three Positions on Abortion" by Thomas Shannon and Nicholas Kockler, the moderate position would limit a consideration of the health of the fetus, risks to the mother's life, rape, and incest. It is also considered a moral position, or a compromise between the pro-choice movement and the pro-life movement. The moderate position accepts both the pro-choice and pro-life positions. Shannon and Kocklers' essay states: "This position views both the fetus and the woman as having rights and prerogatives and recognizes that attempts to resolve such conflicts of rights will involve suffering and pain" (82). This means that the fetus has the right to life and the mother has the right to absolute control over her body. I personally don't agree with the moderate position on abortion, because the entire discussion is academic. Neither group is looking for a compromise. Otherwise you either legalize abortion or you illegalize it. The moderate position accepts the pro-life movement based on the fetus's right to life. It is argued that the fetus is not part of the body of the woman who carries it in her womb. According to Dr. Zahalsky “a developing embryo from the moment of conception is a genetically distinct entity and is not part of the body of the woman who carries it. It is easy to demonstrate that an embryo is genetically distinct from the biological mother. It is also It is easy to demonstrate that the embryo itself is not “par… middle of paper… the woman's right to make a decision about her own body. This is the fundamental issue of this debate right to life, I mentioned before that abortion is a process of taking the fetus away from the mother, not killing the fetus to terminate the pregnancy once the fetus has moved away from the mother, he/she is a vital entity. The right of the fetus is based on itself, but not on the mother. The mother may suffer both mental and physical harm to give birth in some circumstances, such as rape, incest or health problems. I also explained that the mother has more obligations towards of the family and society with respect to the value of the fetus. If the mother dies during the birth of the child, the loss exceeds the value of the new life. From a consequential point of view, it is not worth sacrificing the mother to save the fetus.
