What is the ideal purpose of higher education? College helps people prepare for their future career choices. Most people, myself included, would give a simple, generic answer like that. However, we all know that there is much more. I believe the purpose of higher education is to improve yourself as a whole. Going to college should boost your self-esteem and help you become independent. The structure of higher education should remain the same. Students are expected to begin college as a freshman and finish as a senior. However, I think all freshmen should automatically start out as undecided. There are many people who enroll in specialization without a realistic vision of the matter. Some go to the majors and end up disappointed and dissatisfied. By entering as undecided, it will at least expose you to other possible careers that you may not even know exist. It will allow you to take classes that venture into a variety of different specializations. If you have an idea of the field you want to study, then you should consider enrolling as planned during your second year. Students who start out as undecided are more likely to stay in their career field because it has allowed them to make better choices for themselves and find something more rewarding to do. There are many ways to change the way classes are taught in universities. The first way is for students to receive hands-on education. Students should also receive more in-depth tuition. Some students do better in class by learning by doing. For example, a student wants to pursue a career in teaching. It should be mandatory for them to do an internship or observe someone working in that field. It will help them understand whether that job is really right or not... middle of paper... and the education of people who go to college. Having a country with educated people helps move the country forward in many ways. The government would take some of the tax money spent on war and put it to more use; education. In conclusion, I talked about several topics that I believed could change for the better for a utopian education. Topics included deciding on majors, classes, how grades can negatively affect students, and tuition. I am passionate about how people choose their majors because it can determine their future career. There are many people who are absolutely miserable in their jobs. I would hate for people of my generation to have to deal with something like this in the future. I brought up tuition because the cost deters people who may want to better themselves academically. I hope that in the near future these issues can be addressed fairly and accordingly.
