Most people, at one time or another, have considered what they would do with their lives. Whether a person wants to become an activist, a craftsman or a professional, the military has something for everyone. Finding a path in life is often filled with uncertainty and procrastination. The US Army is a path in itself, should one wish to withdraw from it; however, if a person wishes to take their own path, there are benefits to this too that can remove any doubts and curb procrastination. Because of these many benefits, I believe it should be mandatory for all adults to enlist for a minimum of twenty-four months. In the first twelve months, a person can expect to receive, after possibly paying a negligible fee, eligibility for enlistment. Montgomery GI Bill or Post 9-11 GI Bill for education benefits, completely removing most, if not all, of the individual's monetary responsibility (official GI Bill website). Not to mention, while on active duty there are educational benefits that can pay for most, if not all, of one's active duty education. No matter what the financial situation of an individual or their family, additional financing can only prove beneficial. In fact, it gives integrity to the individual as they have taken responsibility for their own education, effectively taking pressure off their families. It will not become a financial burden on the government because not everyone will serve in the military at the same time. Additionally, compulsorily enlisted persons will be discharged after a maximum of four years. This leaves room for those who voluntarily enlisted to cheerfully continue their military careers. In addition to traditional education, individuals...... middle of paper......ion or are already doing well in providing for their families, should still be drafted into the military. The American government should drill into every adult's head what's best for them, because that's the way it is. This will ensure the prosperity and competitiveness of this country for many years to come! In conclusion, people should not think too much about what they will do with their lives. The United States government and its magnificent military should be the invisible hand guiding every able-bodied adult in the nation. It will be good for people as it will ensure that every person gains valuable skills and the opportunity to succeed in the world. It will also ensure that their families will be taken care of, removing most of the responsibility from the nation's social services. It would be better to spend that money on the new recruit's uniform!
