Topic > Archetypes in Batman, The Joke, Scarecrow and Bane?

The Joker in Nolan's Batman films is, above all, one thing: a master tempter. He has an uncanny charisma that seems to attract as much as it repels. Most importantly, though, is the fact that he constantly tries to corrupt people, especially Batman. He tries to convince a ferry full of innocents to sink a boat full of criminals to save their own lives. He seems to say that chaos is the only truth in life and destruction is the only reality of the universe. The Joker's game is lies and chaos, and time after time he comes up with all four aces. His silver-tongued, tantalizing whisper of chaos is the nemesis of Batman's single-minded quest to make the world an orderly and safe one.
