History of TornadoesA tornado is something that occurs rarely, usually occurring in only 1% of thunderstorms. A tornado is classified as a small, funnel-shaped, oscillating column of air. A funnel cloud will eventually become a tornado when it hits the ground. For a tornado to occur there must be a great deal of strange environmental conditions. There will have to be a trigger such as a cold front and a low level of humidity in the atmosphere. Tornadoes are very powerful, so you don't want to get stuck in the middle of one. The winds are very strong and reach between 40 and over 300 miles per hour, according to the Fujita scale. The winds rotate aloft and will always rotate clockwise. Tornadoes can also reach up to a mile high and can extend up to 50 feet long. Where they occur Tornadoes usually occur in southern states and also in northern states. When tornadoes occur in southern states, they usually occur in early to late spring. Colder air will move into the southern states and tornadoes will occur frequently during these months. When tornadoes occur in northern states, they usually occur during the summer. They usually happen in the summer because the air moves north, so it would be very hot and the tornadoes would peak very high. The southern states that typically receive the most tornadoes are Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. While the northern states that will benefit the most will be Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and Missouri. Tornadoes usually occur from four in the afternoon to eight at night. The areas that receive the most tornadoes are called Tornado Valley. There were more than hundreds of events... in the middle of the paper... usually occurring in the spring-summer period, but it is something that can occur at any time of the year. Whenever a tornado hits, there's no way you can be 100% safe when you're stuck indoors. A tornado is something that can cause death but is highly unlikely to happen. When a tornado hits, the worst thing you could do is open your windows. This will allow all the air to come in and the items in your home will go everywhere. Most tornadoes that do occur will not be extremely dangerous and winds will be less than 100 miles per hour. When tornadoes are very strong, they last more than 20 minutes and winds blow at hundreds of miles per hour. A tornado is unlikely to be violent. These winds can reach up to 300 miles per hour and the tornado can last more than an hour.
