Using race as a means to predict disease and treatment outcomes in the medical field is like using an SAT score as a prediction of how well someone will do in college. Each person is unique, as are different levels of intelligence. This is why they use SAT scores to best match students with a college where they will be successful and use race as a tool to find the right medical treatment for a patient. Race is used as a rough prediction about the risks and outcomes of medical care. This is where racial profiling becomes a useful tool. Throughout history the term “racial profiling” has held negative racial connotations that dictate to the public that all racial profiling is bad. However, profiling can be used correctly and effectively in the medical field and bring positive benefits. Race is a broad window into someone's ancestry, which are good predictors of someone's health. Doctors are able to use a person's racial identity to make timely and effective choices for their medical care. Add Race is also one of the most common categories used as a basis for comparison between groups in research studies. In no way is the use of racial profiling in the medical field used for humiliating purposes, but to give the patient the best treatment possible. ThesisRace can be used as a way to connect a person to their ancestors, which can lead doctors to critical information that can provide their patient with the best possible treatment. With all the advances in medicine there is still no way to determine the specific genetics of a patient and be able to treat each person with respect to their unique genes. Doctors narrow possible risk factors and drug interactions by classifying patients based on gender, age and race. Race is a general way to... middle of paper... to be practical doctors should be able to identify all the genes in the body of each of their patients and analyze them in a timely manner, in order to provide them with a timely and adequate medical advice. At this time this is not realistic. They therefore use racial profiling, not to discriminate, but to provide the best and most efficient medical advice possible. In conclusion, research has shown positive results from the use of racial profiling in the medical field. The way race positively influences medical practices, including the correct type of medications and dosage, cannot be understated. The breed occupies an important place in the medical field, which is also recognized by the US government. With technological advances, perhaps one day the use of the breed may decrease, but nowadays it is a major contributing factor to the medical field.
