When my grandfather bought his house in 1969 he paid $6500.00 cash. Today, $6500.00 wouldn't get you a new backyard garage, let alone a house. Many people see the possibility of owning their own home as a significant achievement; it's an opportunity to settle down. Every person has the right to have something in life and everyone should work hard to get it. However, buying a house today is extremely expensive and many people cannot afford housing. To date, the American dream has been realized for a large number of the population, but not everyone has been able to share it. The dream of owning a home and the possibility of living in adequate and affordable accommodation is increasingly being pushed away for large segments of the population. The problem of homelessness on American streets has become an alarming sign of the severity of this problem. There are many fictitious stories circulating that claim that poverty affects only a small portion of our population and that those living in poverty are found only in urban centers. and they don't work or work hard enough. This couldn't be further from the truth. Another myth is the widespread assumption that inner-city populations living in poverty are all people of color. Here are some statistics on the level of poverty in America...in 1973; the poverty level was 11.1%. In 1983 the rate rose to 15.2. In 2000, the percentage rate dropped to 11.3 due to economic expansion. When you better understand what nonprofits are capable of accomplishing, you can understand the importance of advocating, volunteering, and hopefully contributing to the cause. This article will focus on two notable non-profit organizations that are extraordinary...... middle of paper... the profits described here represent the relationship they have with each other. Due to the similarities in their mission, these two organizations really understand how important it is to cooperate with each other and work together. Because the need for housing in the housing industry is so strong, it is clear to both nonprofits that they will not compete with each other, but rather be stronger together. Fundraising, another very important topic when it comes to non-profit organizations. Many people think of the word fundraising when they think of nonprofit organizations. When it comes to fundraising, Habitat for Humanity has its own playbook. For Habitat, the most important decision to make would be deciding what type of fundraising to do. They hold dodge ball and golf tournaments to auction off a "to-do list" and have someone complete that list for you.
