The Beginning of a New EraHow does fast food affect the health of people in the United States? Fast food has definitely played its mind games and tricks on people in the United States, making people crave the unhealthy and fake food provided by fast food restaurants more and more. Of all the terrible problems facing the United States, the greatest concerns the health of the people in the United States. This leads to massive weight gain, otherwise known as becoming obese. Fast food causes obesity. What is fast food and obesity? People sometimes don't even know what they eat and what the possible outcome is, obesity. According to Carla Power's article, fast food is a food "...high in fat, sugar and salt" ("Big Trouble"). One fast food meal alone has almost enough calories you need for the day. Paul Schwartzman's article states that fast food is "...food ready for consumption" and "customer queuing" ("Defining 'Fast Food' is slow work"). People either simply have no idea what that food contains or they simply don't think that a meal will affect their body that much. Jenni Laidman's article defines obesity as "a body mass index of 30 or more (about 198 pounds for someone 5'8)" or simply "overweight" ("Fat City"). For you, this should be a special indicator of what is really happening in your body and what is classified as obesity. How are fast food and obesity linked? Fast food and obesity are like best friends. According to Josh Ozersky's article, "If you're trying to stop kids from eating fattening meals so they don't grow up big and fat, force McDonald's to make its Happy Meals lower in calories (or kids to swap the fries for slices of apple) is one way to do it" ("Pint-Size Me").
