The term human resources was becoming fashionable, so much so that it developed from the USA to reach the UK. This modern approach was put in place to show how companies could use their workforce to maximize productivity. Human resource management differs from staffing in that instead of seeing employees only as a collective and only trying to meet job-based needs, human resource management sees employees as valued by giving employees more trust and trying to motivate employees rather than simply satisfying them. This type of management leads to engaged and loyal employees who enjoy their work, which means greater productivity. This type of management style also uses strategies to continually determine plans to combat future scenarios that could affect employees or productivity. This new approach to human resource management also allows managers to be involved in activities that a personnel specialist would normally undertake, this makes employees feel more valued and can also benefit the organization itself as it may be daunting to speak to a specialist whilst an employee discovers that they have problems that impede their efficiency in completing their job role effectively, so they can approach their line manager who they would have contact with on many occasions and talk openly about their problems and hopefully come to a solution
