However, he was also a spy for both Germany and France. This is considered double agenting, i.e. spying for two countries at the same time. Unfortunately, double-crossing is risky and dangerous, which is why she didn't survive. The French suspected he was disloyal. They proved his disloyalty by discovering that he often traveled across international borders. They also intercepted information suggesting he was working for the Germans.
