The 1971-72 season was definitely a record-breaking season. The Lakers were not expected to come back after a mediocre season the year before and dominate like they did. NBA.com explains this season as: "Gail Goodrich, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Jim McMillan and Happy Hairston were all part of this dominant season." He broke Philadelphia's record for wins in a season in 1966-67 (broken from Chicago in 1995-96), at one point winning 33 consecutive games, a record that still stands." (NBA.”) To put that in perspective, winning 33 games in a row is the most consecutive victories in the history of any great North American sport. ("NBA".) If they played a game every single day, they would have won every game for over an entire month. This shows how dominant this season really was. They went on to defeat New York 4 games to 1 in the 1972 NBA Finals. (“NBA.”) Another of the Lakers' dominant seasons came in the year 1986-87 Lakers "Showtime", ("NBA"). According to NBA.com this was one of the most as dominant as the league has ever seen, writes NBA.com, "The Lakers regained their place atop the NBA thanks to the 'Showtime'" fast-break style led by Earvin “Magic” Johnson and teammates Kareem Abdul-Jabbar , James Worthy, Byron Scott, AC Green and Michael Cooper... Johnson averaged a career-best 23.9 points per game and led the league in assists with a 12.2 average... I Lakers defeated Boston 4-2 in the 1987 NBA Finals after winning 11 of their first 12 games in the playoffs. ("NBA.") With a winning percentage of (.793), this Lakers team was one of the top ten teams to complete the entire season statistically.
