Memphis is considered a dangerous city by many across the country with few attractions other than Martin Luther King, jr. What they don't know is that Memphis is full of rich music and history. Various genres have impacted people's daily lives such as gospel, soul, funk, blues, jazz, R&B, pop, country and rap. In 1957 the Stax records were found which was known as satellite radio at the time. Stax has made a major impact in helping the lives of people in Memphis. Stax overlooked the obstacles of color and racism while giving many artists of different races the opportunity they dreamed of. Stax has made a huge impact helping people's lives in Memphis, breaking barriers of color and racism, and most importantly, making music. (Stax Museaum)Segregation prevented musicians from playing together, but in West Memphis there were places where blacks and whites could listen together. Because of the many clubs open late at night, Memphians had many choices to choose from. An example is Willie Mitchell who collaborated with other artists and for several years while his band enjoyed the Danny's Club residency in West Memphis.
