Topic > Analysis of College Pressure by William Zinsser

Instructors, assignments, projects, papers due, extracurricular organizations are attributes of college pressure and often cause stress to students. However, college students are not only compressed or stressed in school by teachers, projects or organizational activities, but sometimes they are compressed by the environment in which they live. Due to schoolwork and social difficulties, students are sometimes generally inclined to feel overwhelmed by their situation and not overcome their circumstances as effectively as necessary. On the other hand, compression can be a push for procrastinators to get the task done; but as a result the work does not live up to the instructor's expectations. There are pros and cons to college compression, and students should be aware of them. Compressions also have several positive aspects. The pros or advantages of college compression are sometimes effective because it gives students the adrenaline rush needed to start the assignment and complete it on time. Additionally, depending on the length of the assignment, the student will occasionally be more creative with their work and will actually work faster due to the focus and strength that increases when the body is under compression. Additionally, students view stress as a substitute for self-discipline because they cannot begin work without a time or date squeeze.
