Rhetorical Essay Many people in the world of writing see text differently. While some agree 100% with a point, there are others who disagree with the solution or point an author is trying to convey. With disagreement comes debate. With debate comes counterpoints and facts to support an individual's positions on a topic. For the public, credibility is the main source of understanding; if an author is not confident and credible in his argument, then it is not valid. Usually an author uses the rhetorical system when he counters a reason or a position. Logos are rational or logical appeals. The logical appeal uses reason to make a case. The theoretical thesis is mostly driven by logos because educational viewers respect the scholarship and evidence. Proponents of using logos rely on evidence and evidence, whether hard data or careful reasoning. Pathos is an emotional appeal. In a pathetic appeal, speakers focus on the reader's sympathy and kindness, anger and sorrow, longing for love, or pain to get their point across. Effective rhetoricians can trigger these feelings in an audience even if the feeling was not present before. Ethos takes advantage of the writer's credibility. Rhetoricians use themselves and their position as a “professional” or “moral right” to give existence and value to their arguments. Using the rhetorical triangle as a tool to attract or persuade the reader can be very effective when used all together. In the article “Assisted Suicide, Should Doctors Be Allowed to Help Terminally Ill People Die?” Reed Karaim uses Ethos and Logos to prove his point. Ethos is considered a success or failure when speaking to an audience. Usually, a writer or author uses himself or quotes an individual when speaking... middle of paper... takes pills himself. State health agencies are required to provide annual reports on how often physician-assisted suicide is used, and by whom. more credible argument. Giving sources a well-known name can increase the reliability of a topic, especially when it comes to something in their field. But as in all cases, data that not only supports the counterargument, but also takes away from the original argument, is a great way to attract the audience to the counterargument. The audience is looking to see if what the author or speaker is trustworthy enough and taking away credibility from the other side and supporting it with data and reliable sources such as experts or professors is a great way to make a good counterargument.
