In the novel The Great Gatsby, the main theme is the collapse of the American Dream. The American dream was about money, lots of money. The quote “Her voice is full of money” is said of Daisy by Gatsby. To me that means she grew up rich and will always remain rich, which is the American dream. Gatsby believes that Daisy's voice is full of money and this is very addictive to him. It's why he's so fond of her: she's Mr. Gatsby's American dream. Like all people, Gatsby tries to grasp this American dream and to do so he must convince Daisy that she should be his, if he could accomplish this task, then he could achieve this dream, but what if he succeeds in achieving it and is? still not happy. If Gatsby had money, Daisy and her voice full of money, and everything else he wanted, it would destroy the American dream. Could it be that the reason the American dream was dying is because it was all about material objects and not honesty, trust and love? In the 1920s the era was full of greed, dishonesty, cynicism and empty pursuit of happiness. How could anyone trust their spouse, you would have to worry about him all the time and would be skeptical of everything he does. Everyone would think about themselves, so no one could even try to make another happy because they would be too worried about themselves to care about other people's dreams and happiness. Maybe if they had restored the original American dream, things would have been much better. The original dream was discovery, individualism and the pursuit of happiness. This original dream would probably have made almost everyone happy, even the poor, because other richer people could have helped them, instead of being greedy like in the corrupted dream. Furthermore, I believe that so many people would not have died in this novel if the American dream had been the original one and not the corrupt and evil one of the 1920s. Thus, the quote “His voice is full of money” refers to the corrupt dream that the world conformed to in the 1920s. The quote “Suppose you meet someone just as careless as you?
