Juvenile Justice Would you sentence a 10 year old to dozens of years in prison? Juveniles have committed crimes, and the justice system treats more serious cases as adults. Juvenile criminals should not be sentenced as adults. Children are not equal to adults so they should not be treated like adults. Some children don't know that what they are doing is wrong. Some may not know the severity and impact of what they have done. Children are not the same as adults. Their bodies and minds are still growing and developing. A child does not have the reasoning or intellectual abilities to understand what he could do. If an adult hands a gun to a child, the child will want to touch every part of the gun. If the adult did not hold the gun properly and left the weapon loaded, the child will pull the trigger and could unintentionally hurt someone. A child's brain is not grown or developed enough to manifest a plan to intentionally harm someone. Children should not be compared to adults in criminal courts.
