In 1500 the Spanish conquistadors crossed the Atlantic Ocean to the New World and conquered its native peoples. Despite these early explorations, Spain was able to acquire vast territories and wealth. There were many conquistadors in this time period, one of the most famous conquistadors was Francisco Pizarro. Francisco Pizarro helped spread the Spanish language and culture to Peru and many other countries. The Age of Exploration is a period between the 15th and 17th centuries. During this time Europeans undertook journeys in search of new things such as trade routes, goods, and trading partners. The Spanish instead went in search of new lands and gold for Spain. A group of Spanish explorers were known as the Conquistadores. They were made up of soldiers, explorers and conquerors. The conquistadors went to all kinds of different places like Mexico, Cuba, and Peru and conquered many civilizations like the Aztecs and Incas. Some of the most famous conquistadors were Francisco Pizarro, Hernando Cortez, Francisco de Orellana, Deigo de Almagro and Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca. With the idea of enriching himself and spreading Spanish culture throughout the world, Francisco Pizarro left to explore Peru. When Francisco Pizarro began his search, he arrived in Peru in 1532. Upon his arrival, Pizarro found the Inca civilization in a fragile environment. state due to a civil war. Two Inca brothers, Atahualpa and Huascar were in a power struggle to become the absolute ruler of the Inca Empire. Atahualpa ultimately won, but the empire was weakened and in its prime to take over. In 1533 Francisco Pizarro and his army of 180 soldiers took advantage of the situation by kidnapping Atahualpa and holding him for...... middle of paper ......ro became the ruler of the Incas, they believed in gods and goddess and nature, but after his arrival they converted to Christianity. Francisco taught the natives Spanish but before teaching it they spoke a dialect called Quecha. Many things changed when Pizarro was in charge. Native traditions and customs began to become more similar to Spanish ones. Without the voyages of the Conquistadors in the 1500s, the New World would likely not be as we know it today. One of the Conquistadores, Francisco Pizarro changed Peru in many ways, some were good but some were not so good. It brought Western culture and religion to a place where it had not existed before. Unfortunately, achieving this goal required the annihilation of an entire civilization. Some see him as a ferocious invader, while others see him as a conquering hero.
