The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as a whole, can be broken down into a family dispute. Two brothers fight for their ancestral land, while their uncle, who oversteps his bounds, claims to put an end to the fight by taking on the responsibilities for a while. Great Britain, the uncle, was very keen on carving up the land of Palestine, into Palestine and Israel, dividing the territory around the settlements. Nobody was happy with this decision, and so it was discarded. Hypothetically, many have wondered, David Ben-Gurion himself concluded,1 that if the Peel Commission had been accepted, would those 6 million Jews have survived, or would they have had the same fate?2 I cannot give an answer to this question , for The entire state of the conflict is a hypothetical scenario, from the first thought of granting the Jews the land of Mandate Palestine, so that they could set up homes in suitable settlements on what they claimed to be ancestral land, until today, when There is still a constant bitterness between Israelis and Palestinians. Only, no matter where you look at this topic, no matter how many books are written and read, debates upon articles or bombs on buses, the central question of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is; Would the Peel Commission have been successful if it had been passed in 1937? Lord William Peel, 1st Earl Peel, was the youngest son of Sir Robert Peel. Sir Robert Peel was British Prime Minister from 1834 to 1835 and then again from 1841 to 1846. During his second term he reintroduced income tax into the federal budget, to help with the economic recession that was occurring in 1942. Maybe it's here that Lord William Peel inherited his will to solve problems; see everyone at peace with each other,...... middle of paper...... in opinions.15 Caplan, Neil; Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Shoah, Atzma'ut, Nakba: 1939', pg 119 knowledge of what happened, but speaking to more than one, if anyone had taken a moment to think about it, how could they have missed an indication to the imminent terror. Hitler never hid his intentions nor the events of Operation Hummingbird16. So these were just repercussions of not accepting the 1939 partition plan, and instead accepting a version of it in 1947? No matter how many questions are answered, there will always be many more to take its place. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict may seem like just another "what-if" and, understandably, it is difficult to look at what happened without knowledge of what happened, and perhaps for this reason the Peel Commission continues to be quietly persistent, even after falling through the cracks of history.16
