It has been said that first impressions can never happen twice. This is true in all respects, and most people deal with this problem through varying degrees of impression management. However, after a first impression has occurred, managing that relationship based on further impressions is vital for long-term symbiotic relationships to continue between the two or more people involved. In a professional context, impression management is essential for establishing a status quo among colleagues in their respective environments. The most obvious form of this is through the use of symbols, in this case clothing, to establish and reinforce how colleagues think and behave towards each other within and outside of a professional context. Simply put, gender takes a variety of factors into consideration, while sex is predetermined. In a narrower perspective, the differences between men and women as members of their society perceive the differences imposed on their identification. Differences such as the division of labor into female and male labor and a different contrast between female and male attitudes play a prominent role in each social system (West, C., Zimmerman, D., 1987, pg.128). Drawing these conclusions on the topic of professionals tells us that these roles acquired by men are the result of attitudes that both sexes have accepted as true and establishes a dynamic over the course of the workplace.
