Topic > The Harmful Nature of Drugs - 1032

Some people say drug abuse is a choice, while others believe it is forced due to peer pressure or life pressures. Some people are able to use prescription drugs without ever experiencing negative consequences or addiction. Although some drugs are not considered dangerous if they are of plant origin or if they are only used occasionally in a controlled manner, they can still have serious consequences. The use of non-prescribed medications should be avoided in the first place, except for legitimate medical use. Drugs can lead to an unhealthy lifestyle and can cause serious physical and mental harm. The reasoning behind my harsh opinion that unhealthy drug use is problematic overall is due to the experience of losing my best friend to drug abuse. During high school I had a best friend who I have been inseparable with since kindergarten. We were inseparable until my best friend started using marijuana. I myself was unaware of this new drug, my friend informed me and convinced me that it was harmless and non-toxic. At first his marijuana use was only occasional, but as time went on his use only increased. There was no doubt that he eventually became addicted. Not only did it show in his appearance but also in his personality. Since I was completely against the idea of using marijuana, my best friend and I distanced ourselves from each other. The separation from my best friend had made me vulnerable and I felt lost without him. We went from being inseparable to barely speaking. Being vulnerable and trying to get my best friend back, I thought trying the drug would somehow help. Of course, my best friend, amazed at the idea, willingly gave me my first dose of marijuana. Imme… middle of the paper… those who take drugs tend to lose all aspects of their priorities, because the drugs become their only priority. But the most important thing is that a simple drug may seem harmless at first glance, but in reality it carries greater dangers, including death. My best friend, who I grew up with for half my life, might still be here today if it weren't for drugs. Since his death I have understood that drugs consume you and only have negative effects on people. If I had not been awakened by drug destruction from previous experiences, it is possible that I would not be alive today. Even though my best friend's death was a tragedy, he is in a better place now. His death is a constant reminder to me how easy it is to fall into bad choices and let your life spiral out of control. Resisting temptations such as drugs and having a strong will to have a better life can only lead to positive results.
