Since the beginning of time, water has been a source of ultimate power. The story of creation is told in the biblical book of Genesis. On the third day, God is said to part the waters to give life to the humans, animals and vegetation that inhabit the earth. This is similar to how Victor Frankenstein brings his monster to life. Later in Genesis, God approaches Noah, who is a righteous man of God. He tells Noah to build an Ark because he intends to flood the Earth to free it from evil and corruption. The Bible, written over 3,000 years ago, shows the ability and power of water to transcend time. This allusion shows the power that water can have. In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, she connects water to her main character, Victor Frankenstein. He gave birth to a monster with innocent intentions, but the monster continues to kill and destroy. In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein's actions symbolically refer to water and the antithesis in which it not only creates, but also destroys life. In the novel, Victor creates a monster with pure intentions. Before the story of the monster's life is told from the monster's point of view, Victor reminds Robert Walton of his journey to meet the monster. Explain the journey to the mountain to talk to the monster. During his journey he experiences the sound of the river raging among the rocks and the roar of waterfalls around, which express to him that water has the power of omnipotence (Shelley, 81). This expression of the water archetype recurs throughout the novel. This becomes the basis for inferring that water will be a prevalent energy source not only in the novel, but also in important aspects of everyday life. Victor's actions show that while his intentions may have been pure, the results of his actions proved to be deadly force. When the monster comes to life, it is raining (Shelley, 43). Victor has the power to give life, just like water does. This is a representation of the archetype, water. The presence of water as the creature comes to life foreshadows the effects Victor's actions will have. Later, after separating from the monster that night, Victor returns home to find that his brother has been murdered. Ultimately, Victor realizes that it is the monster who killed his dear brother.
