The Giver by Lois Lowry There is much controversy as to why the book "The Giver" was called "The Giver". Many different views are expressed in the piece which gives many different reasons for the name. The book was titled The Giver because this person is the one who passes on memories to the Recipient in training so that the memories can be passed on to generations. . The Giver, formerly known as The Receiver, gives memories to Jonas, who, in the future, becomes the recipient. This explains the true meaning of the title, but several different points of view say that there are deeper and broader reasons about the title of the book. Jonas and his family lived in the future in a community called "Sameness", where there is no pain. , color, choices or memories.
