The Nature of God and Miracles Christians believe in miracles because of biblical evidence. There are many examples of God's intervention on behalf of the Jews, which were considered miraculous. For example, when the Jews were fleeing Egypt in the Old Testament (Exodus) God intervened several times; when they were trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh's army, God was seen parting the sea so they could cross; when they were hungry in the desert, he sent someone so that they could eat; and when Jericho interfered, God destroyed the city when they marched around it for seven days. The Bible records many miracles that occurred over a period of more than 4,000 years. But it is easy to mistakenly believe that miracles were common occurrences in Biblical times. This is not the case. It is the nature of history to record events that are out of the ordinary, so miracles will seem much more common than they actually are. The very reason these things were recorded is because they were unusual events of supernatural or miraculous activity. Jesus' miracles have an additional meaning; they are evidence of a messiah ship and its special role on earth. They show the power of God at work, not through him, but through him. This was demonstrated when a woman in the crowd touched Jesus' cloak and he felt the power drain from him. Jesus performed miracles to teach people and to show the power of God, there are four main teaching points to learn from miracles. He taught that people should “see the light of God” and demonstrated this by restoring sight to the blind, such as blind Bartimaeus. He taught that God will forgive people's sins... middle of paper... they will be healed or the miracle will happen through the power of God. Personally I think science has actually added in the demonstration of miracles, even though they are said to have happened fewer miracles, those that have usually been proven true with the help of science. Other miracles happen in the modern era where people find themselves in a situation that prevents them from dealing with otherwise potentially fatal situations, such as being in a house on a hill when a flash flood occurs; while in biblical times miracles were based on health since there was not as much medical knowledge as there is in modern times. Therefore, miracles still exist today only in a form different from those reported in the Bible. People have faith in God in certain situations just as they have faith in doctors in medical situations.
