Animal Abuse Awareness“Ignorance is a blessing.” We often hear this saying but never really stop to think about its validity. Think of all the things that we as humanity are unaware of. Obviously, there are a number of issues out there that people don't want society to know about. But ultimately, there isn't much out there that we wouldn't be able to learn if we really wanted to. Regarding controversial or questionable public topics specifically, information is available to give people the opportunity to learn more about them and form opinions. This is where the saying “ignorance is a blessing” comes into play. How much do we as a society really want to know? How curious are we to understand what animals go through when they are used to test for toxins or trimmed for coats? These are just two of the many scenarios in which animals suffer, but which our society fails to recognize. We don't focus on the negative aspects of these and other problems, because we are too dependent on the benefits that come from them. Members of an organization called People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are committed to ending society's ignorance regarding animal abuse awareness. Their mission is to inform and convince people about animal rights. Participants believe that animals have the right to be protected from being used for food, experimentation, clothing and entertainment (PETA). There are several ways PETA members try to convey their mission and facts. One of the main ways to do this is through the World Wide Web. PETA's main website, www.PETA.org, contains information on the cruelty of animal abuse in a variety of aspects, such as those mentioned...... half of the document......or the end of animal abuse would find the sites interesting and informative. In that retrospective, the website does a good job of giving its intended viewers what they want to read or see about. Despite this, I think that like any organization it is in their best interest to grow and expand, and they cannot do so without teaching the unsuspecting public the facts they need to know. If they put more emphasis on this, perhaps their beliefs could become more widespread in the United States and around the world.
