A prevalent sociological issue in our society today is poverty. Poverty has been present in society for a long time. It seems that no type of society can escape poverty and reach a state where everyone in society works and is able to adequately care for themselves. This led me to wonder if it is possible to eliminate poverty in our modern world today. There are sociologists and experts who argue that poverty will always be part of our society and there are others who believe that eliminating poverty is a feasible goal. To examine this question one must first be able to understand what poverty is and the different types of poverty that exist in our society today. Only then can a conclusion be reached. The conclusion I have come to is that it is not possible to completely eliminate poverty. It is not reasonable to believe that everyone in society will have a job and be successful. However, this in no way means that we should give up in the war on poverty. It should rather mean the opposite. This should spur society into action, meaning that everyone in society should be encouraged to do everything in their power to achieve an ideal society, a utopia, where there is no poverty. Achieving perfection is impossible, but that doesn't stop many artists, religious devotees, and countless other people from attempting to do exactly that. Setting a very high standard or an impossible goal will cause the company to strive harder and harder to reach that standard which in turn will create productive results. We know that utopia is an imaginary place, but that shouldn't stop society from trying to reach that state. We may never reach that state, but along the way, even attempting the process has the potential to fundamentally change society for the better. One of the ways society can start down this path is to
