Where the male reproductive organs are always spoken of in a positive way. The sperm is productive and hard working, as the egg is sluggish and lifeless. Just as described in science, society has viewed the male role in a more positive perspective as female roles are considered less important. Males are considered productive and valuable as they go to work and provide for the family, while females are expected to stay at home and take care of children. As a result, women are seen as dependent on men and manless; women can often be shown as weak. Inside the article there is a piece in which the author shows how scientists used the Disney film “Sleeping Beauty” to help readers understand how the reproductive system works. The egg is seen as the bride awaiting the magical kiss of her king, as the mission of the sperm is to “move through the female genital tract in search of the egg” (Martin, 2013, p.119). It is the sperm's job to fight off other candidates to save the egg, which will die in a few hours if it is not saved by the sperm. Without the sperm, the egg appears to be useless. Within this text readers can see how often sperm projects such masculine characteristics, as the egg is very feminized. I believed that this was closely related to the idea that was brought forward between the 1960s and 1980s. It was believed that if women had a husband and were able to treat him well, they could find happiness. Without husbands, women were believed to be unable to live normal, productive lives
