In the 21st century, every nation strives to progress in the aspects of innovation. Competing countries fear losing valuable immigrants as they offer a broader vision to boost the economy. More than half of each country's population is made up entirely of immigrants of different ethnic origins. As immigrants, it is difficult to appeal to natives as there are battles for jobs and space. However, Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner and a series of opinion pieces provide insight into how immigration can benefit everyone. More specifically, published by the New York Times: The Easy Problem by David Brooks and Immigration Enrichs You and Me by Nicholas Kristof promote immigration based on previous studies on globalization. A company known as Career Edge has placed “more than 1,300 immigrants in internships with over 350 host employers across all sectors of the workforce” (Deans). In this case, large quantities of immigrants are immediately inserted into the world of work thanks to their knowledge and skills. Referring to the novel, the hard work that Amir's father describes from Afghanistan caused Amir to recognize how "a month after [arriving] in the United States, Baba found work [...] as an assistant at a train station service" (Hosseini 137). Amir notes how Baba was easily accepted for the job. Furthermore, Baba is the only employer who speaks English and Pashto. In turn, both the manager and Baba benefit as the store attracts more Afghan customers and Baba is able to speak in his native language. By having advanced workers and technological aids in the marketing branch of the workforce, a balance between inventory and distribution will be convenient for citizens. People can easily buy and sell their goods leading to sustained economic growth. Furthermore, immigration results in a successful economy due to the skills in the work ethic of each worker. The Toronto Immigration Lectures predicts that “100 per cent of Canada's labor growth will come from new immigrants” (Deans). The community will be made up of all foreigners participating in the new programs hosted by Canada. In Toronto's innovation strategy, taxes balance the money we have, benefiting us and the community. Many citizens believe that immigrants misuse their money because they earn no government spending. While this may be true, according to the Center for American Progress, “migrants [entering] the workforce will contribute $45 billion over five years in payroll taxes” (Kristof). To point out, immigrants provide more than enough to support the economy. Similarly to the novel, Baba and Amir are seen to earn enough money through the "market [which] was crowded that day and sales had been strong – it was only 12:30 but we had already made $160" (Hosseini, 152). . That is, Afghans give a larger share to the government to lower the cost of public services such as food, housing, healthcare, and affordable childcare for all. They are granted a life full of aspirations as several immigrants work hard to achieve their goals to get what they deserve for the future. Finally, pay will increase due to the dedication immigrants have for the job. From the Economic Policy Institute, Heidi Shierholz, confirms “the increase [in] overall American wages of approximately $3.68 per week” (Brooks) due to immigration. Having a higher salary, families are able to support themselves financially thanks to a significant amount of money they receive. Compared to The Kite Runner, Amir
